Meet the Artist
Hi, I’m Jes, artist, maker, book lover, and the creative heart behind The Salty Squeak.
I’ve always been the kind of person who can’t sit still for long without making something. Whether it’s painting book edges, creating handmade gifts, woodworking, crafting, or dreaming up a new project, my happiest moments happen when my hands are busy and my imagination is free to wander.
Growing up, my friends often called me “Little,” “Squeaky,” or “Squeakers” because I’m short (5’0” on a good day) and my unmistakably squeaky voice. Long before that, my mom had a nickname for me: “Miss Mouse.” I was always getting into something, exploring, creating, collecting treasures, and turning ordinary things into something new.
Years later, those memories became the inspiration for The Salty Squeak.
What started as a creative business became something more: a way to share the joy of making with others. Through workshops, classes, and handmade creations, I hope to create a space where people can slow down, connect, and rediscover the simple satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.
You don’t have to be an artist to belong here. You just have to be curious.
Meet the Mouse
The Salty Squeak isn’t just a logo. She’s a character with a story of her own.
She lives somewhere between the sea and the stories.
This little mouse lives in a tiny beach cottage tucked behind the dunes, she spends her days collecting weathered treasures washed ashore by the tide. Sea glass, forgotten buttons, scraps of ribbon, old book pages, and shells with stories still hidden inside them all find their way into her collection.
She’s endlessly curious and rarely sits still. If there’s somewhere to explore, a craft to try, or a forgotten object waiting for a second chance, she’ll find it.
Her shelves are lined with books, her pockets are full of treasures, and every project begins with the same question:
“What could this become?”
The Salty Squeak was inspired by my childhood memories, creativity, and the belief that beautiful things don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.
She reminds us that wonder can be found in ordinary places, stories are everywhere if we look closely enough, and sometimes the best souvenirs are the ones we make ourselves.
